- The CST team invaded the library today so it was rather chaotic until lunch. Because of overcrowding the library is often used for testing or the distribution of test materials. I rolled up my sleeves and helped. Not only was the testing team there, but a displaced English class whose room was being used for testing. The teacher was not happy at all, but was grateful that the TL let her bring her class in the library.
- "Miss, where are the history books?" That was the first question I got today. The student mentioned Daniel Ellsberg and Cesar Chavez and the Progressive era in the same sentence. After a brief discussion I realized a small group of 11th graders was working on a poster project about the decades of 20th century America. They needed historical figures and events and symbols for all the decades. I showed them how to use OPAC and we found great sources. It is so thrilling to show a student how to use OPAC. It is as if once they learn about it the world is their oyster!
- I worked in ACCENT today, fixed some barcode errors, made labels for DVDs. Ms Hoover should me a variety of things the system is used for. She is very patient. It seemed like every book or other item I touched needed some special handling and I felt like I was bugging her but she assured me that dealing with minutiae is part of the job and that when I was in a library full-time patterns would emerge and every task would not seem different. She showed me the ACCENT user's guide. She also assured me that I would receive extensive training when I become a TL. I guess LAUSD is switching to another system in the next year r two.
- Shelving and reading the shelves continues.
- Discussed possible collaborative lessons with English teachers, Ms. Cortez and Ms. Pyrko.
