- Discussed potential fieldwork projects with TL as well as the week's tasks
- Supervised service workers and volunteers getting community service hours
I observed that the library aide/clerk is not comfortable directing the service workers. She is very quiet and shy. The students tend to sit around and chat or text or read or do homework. Ms. Hoover wants me to work with them. They are a diverse group ability wise. Most will work when directed. One project can be developing an orientation for student workers as well as a rubric so that it is not one of those "show up and get an 'A'" classes.
- Did not know that helping teachers with the copy machine is part of a TLs job. It is. And they are not always nice about it! I helped several teachers troubleshoot problems and learned how to order supplies for the machines. One machine needs service but it is unavailable because the district is changing maintenance policies. I noticed the TL had to say repeatedly that making classroom copies was neither her nor the service workers job.
- Helped students find books using OPAC and Dewey Decimal System
One particular student wanted What My Girlfriend Doesn't Know by Sonia Sones. OPAC said we had two copies on the shelf. I could not find them. I checked ACCENT to see if they were lost or stolen. I checked to see if they had been returned but not checked in. I checked to see if they were on a cart waiting to be shelved. I looked above and below, left and right on the shelves. Felt terrible when I couldn't find them for the student. Ms. Hoover was busy but said she would tell me my next steps later.
- Tried to deal with a title/barcode discrapancy
